"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost"

What My Mother Doesn't Know - Sonya Sones I read this book for National Banned Book week (September 24th - October 1st). I saw the advertisement in Half Price Books when I visited to buy some books for a school project. I was a little reluctant to read this book due to the poetry genre, but I can gladly say I am very happy to have picked up this book.I really wish I would have had a book like this when I was a teenager. The voice of the character is very wonderful, and her struggles to find someone that is "just right" for her is a subject which everyone can relate to. Sure, it might seem shallow, but are we all not looking for love? And Sohpie's taste in boys from "High School Sweetie" to "High School Soulmate" really drove home to the reader about love and how we can't judge a book by its cover. Even the versus are lovely and they flow with such elegance. The reader can definitely feel that artistic nature of Sophie's evolving character. Even her description of her home life has a touch of sophistication for a situation that lacks such a quality. I highly recommend this book to any young adult, and even secondary and high school teachers. Some of the poems can be distributed for a class assignment if the teacher feels that some of the material is too sensitive for the class.
